Dear Members and Friends of IAP,
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a merry Christmas and happy holidays. I would also like to thank all of you who have attended our meetings and especially those regular folks who come and participate and make the discussions so interesting. If you want to meet fine, interesting and good people, go to philosophy meetings or hang around a golf course!
I would like to announce the existence of our new web site: "mind-werx.com". It is still somewhat primitive but yours truly will improve the site regularly over time. On this site we will publish all of our programs, our newsletters and any essays the members would like to contribute. This is the chance to express what you think. Remember, what you think and believe can and does make a difference! Let's get it out to the world! Please send any essays or remarks you would like to publish to The Editorial Board of the IAP at the above address.
Having a very small staff, we have been lax on collecting dues. We would appreciate if those of you who have not become full members ($25.00 per year) would consider joining up at the next meeting. For those of you who paid dues last year, they are now due again.
Since we are a non-profit organization, any contributions to the IAP are tax deductible. If any of you are true believers in the fundamental importance of philosophy and would like to make a contribution to help us expand our programs and to bring in outside speakers etc., please let me know. We would like to devise a program for our local high schools to introduce them to what philosophy is and how it impacts their lives. I can assure you that it does, whether one realizes it or not. By virtue of intellect, we are naturally philosophical creatures. That is, we wish to understand and explain experience. As Plato said: "The unexamined life is not worth living!"
If any of you are receiving regular monthly letters and no longer wish to do so, please let me know by sending me a note at the above address or by calling 891-5068. It will save us postage which is our major expenditure right now.
After presenting programs for two and one-half years, we would like to hear from the members and the attendees regarding their opinions of our programs. Please refrain from the natural inclination to criticize, condemn and complain (human, all too human!) but offer helpful remarks and new ideas that we can incorporate into future programs to make them more interesting and stimulating. I will direct them to Don Emon who is our
Program Director as well as meeting moderator. If any of you would like to make a presentation at one of our meetings, or present an entire program, please let me know. I know there are many intelligent, educated and experienced people in our organization and we want to hear from you! It is not necessary to be a professional philosopher to philosophize. It is only necessary to be critical of what you believe!
If any of you would like to contribute refreshments for our monthly meetings or assist Patty is setting up, please let me know. We do believe the refreshments enhance the meetings and give us a chance to talk with one another informally before and afterwards. I am always thankful for Patty Iosue's loyal efforts in providing them for us.
From Patty Iosue, Don Emon, Gordon Wilson and myself, thank you all again and merry Christmas.
Cordially,
Albert M. Iosue
President, The Institute For Applied Philosophy
